Overview

Executive Summary

We partnered with the client data team to modernize their platform and resolve data orchestration bottlenecks affecting analytics consistency and delivery speed.

The Challenges

Legacy workflows made it difficult to aggregate information from multiple systems in a single, trusted source.

  • Slow data refresh

Daily and weekly update cycles delayed reporting and reduced confidence in time-sensitive decisions.

  • Limited data quality controls

Inconsistent checks across systems created frequent data mismatches and extra manual validation effort.

  • High operational overhead

Disconnected pipelines increased maintenance effort and made scaling new use cases expensive.

Challenges

Transitioning from Fragmented Legacy Systems

Managing four separate firms across disconnected Microsoft Access databases created operational silos, limited organizational visibility, and made it difficult to manage permissions, reporting, and office operations efficiently.

Manual Payment Processing Bottlenecks

Reliance on manual payment entries through third-party gateways like Repay introduced friction, constrained scalability, and made it hard to support high-volume loan settlements and scheduled payment processing.

Integrating Multi-Rail Payment Infrastructure

FundingGA needed seamless integration with Payliance APIs for both ACH bank transfers and debit card authorizations, each with different settlement behaviors and response structures, requiring a unified and reliable processing layer.

Operational Visibility and Real-Time Tracking

The legacy environment offered mostly static, retrospective reporting, making reconciliation difficult and delaying the identification of failed or returned ACH and debit transactions.

Maintaining Business Logic During Modernization

Core business rules were embedded in an aging Access-based system, so the modernization effort had to preserve and respect established operational logic while rebuilding the platform on a modern web architecture.

Delivery strategy

Our Approach

We partnered with FundingGA to consolidate fragmented legacy databases, embed Payliance’s ACH and debit rails into a unified Backoffice, and stand up a cloud-native platform that operations teams can rely on every day. Our focus was a single operational view of customers, payments, and permissions so multi-location lending could scale without adding manual overhead or risk.

Key outcomes

A modern, browser-based Backoffice that centralizes data, automates collections, and gives FundingGA real-time visibility into loan performance across all locations.

Four legacy MS Access databases unified into a single Common Database architecture.

Centralized management of office locations, employee permissions, and payment credentials.

Web-based Backoffice experience that replaces desktop-bound workflows.

UX designed around real-world agent tasks and complex financial data navigation.

Integrated ACH and debit payment rails orchestrated through Payliance APIs.

Automated ACH batch settlements and real-time debit card authorizations.

Cloud-native infrastructure on AWS for scalable, secure operations.

CI/CD pipelines that support frequent, low-risk releases to production.

4 → 1

Legacy databases unified into a single Common Database.

Real-time operational view across all FundingGA lending entities.

Solution

Architecture

Solution architecture diagram for the FundingGA Backoffice platform, showing React front-end, FastAPI backend, centralized SQL Server database, Payliance payment integration, and AWS cloud infrastructure.

The modernized platform utilizes a modular, high-performance tech stack designed for security and rapid scaling.

01

Frontend

React, modern component library, and Tailwind CSS for responsive, accessible UI.

02

Backend

FastAPI (Python) powering high-performance APIs and clearly modeled domain logic.

03

Database

Centralized Microsoft SQL Server into a unified common database, seamlessly connecting data across all four office locations.

04

Identity & Security

AWS Cognito for authentication and Cloudflare CAPTCHA securing public-facing forms.

05

Infrastructure

AWS ECS for services, S3 + CloudFront for delivery, and SST (CDK) for Infrastructure as Code.

Production-Ready Architecture

Built with enterprise-grade security, scalability, and observability from day one.

Outcomes

Business Impact

  • Unified Operations: Single-point management for four distinct financial entities.

  • Automated Settlements: Eliminated manual entry through automated daily bulk payment submissions.

  • Real-Time Fidelity: Instant visibility into transaction statuses, replacing static reporting.

  • Increased Scalability: A robust cloud foundation capable of supporting additional offices and higher loan volumes.

  • Improved Security: Integrated OTP delivery via AWS SNS and secure credential management.

Phased and seamless

Transition

FundingGA rolled out the new platform in a controlled sequence: early adoption focused on validating payments, permissions, and reconciliation with real production traffic, then expanded usage across teams as confidence in the unified data model grew.

The move from desktop Access to a single cloud-backed system eliminated duplicate entry paths, improved traceability for ACH and debit activity, and made it practical to iterate safely with CI/CD and observable infrastructure.

Results & long-term impact

Operational clarity

A single web backoffice replaced siloed Access workflows with consistent data and permissions.

Payment automation

ACH and debit flows orchestrated through Payliance reduced manual gateway work and settlement risk.

Cloud readiness

AWS-hosted services and infrastructure-as-code support safer releases and scaling new entities.
